Selling web hosting to customers is one of the most profitable services a web designer or digital agency can offer. It is common for a user to purchase a reseller hosting account and then split that account into multiple smaller packages which will then be home to their clients.
By Jamie Hoyles, Clook Internet accounts managerA good example of this is to compare shared /reseller hosting account prices and allowances… Our reseller-20 package is priced at £15 per month and has a disc space allowance of 10GB. Our shared-1 service is priced at £5 per month and has a disc space allowance of 500MB – therefore 20 shared-1 accounts could fit into 1 reseller-20 package.
Getting started as a hosting reseller
- The web developer is able to create their own packages assigning disc space and bandwidth allowances.
- Next you would assign a website to one of the newly create packages and populate with content/create email addresses where necessary. You are able to send access details for the cPanel account to the client should you wish.
- Invoice for the service and make money!
Am I limited to offering just web hosting?
Software licences are also available including WHMCS. This is a great piece of billing software which allows the user to add clients and subsequently add services/orders and then invoice accordingly. Payment gateways are built in including PayPal, Sagepay, Worldpay plus many others. Reminders can be sent out to clients when a product is reaching it’s renewal date or if an invoice were to go unpaid. It is even possible to set up a support ticket system for you and your clients.
