Now here’s a business that goes the ‘extra page’ for its clients.
Chantelle Lighting were asked to create 160 book table lamps for the new Hotel Indigo, Manchester.
Not a problem for the manufacturer which boasts a full team of artisan craftsmen and women at its Nelson factory.
But there is one caveat…all of the books have to have a Manchester theme; yes, all 1280 of them!
Not one to shy away from a challenge, Chantelle’s project co-ordinator Harriet Heaton took on the job.
She said: “It was no mean feat getting so many books in a such a short timescale; we have three months to fulfil the order, and obviously to do this, having the books here ready to use was vital.
“And they couldn’t be any Manchester themed book, so nothing about Manchester United or Manchester City, they had to reference Manchester’s heritage and industry.”
Harriet spent many a weekend scouring book shops, charity shops and online in order to build the Manchester-themed library required. Revival Books in Waterfoot proved to be a huge lifesaver in sourcing and providing books which met her needs.
As soon as any books were collected and delivered, Harriet passed them on to Chantelle’s production team to do their magic.
There was 450 hours labour involved in the creation of the lamps; from picking, fabrication, preparation, painting and wiring and finally, packing.
Harriet said: “A lot of effort went into meeting the brief, so to see the end result was fantastic.
It really gave the lamps a rustic feel, which was unique to the Hotel Indigo.”
The lamps are now in situ in the Grade II listed building’s bedrooms, following its two-year, £30m renovation under InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) boutique brand.
