Geoff is home to roost

A familiar face is back behind the counter at Roaming Roosters’ farm shop this winter, as Geoff Mellin swaps his muddy farm boots for a butcher’s knife.

Well known to customers at the shop in Higham, Geoff has served many years as a farmer and traditional butcher and passed on his knowledge to sons Simon and Nick, who were responsible for setting up the Roaming Roosters farm shop in 2012.

After spending time working on the farm at Roaming Roosters and establishing partnerships with other local farmers who supply their grass-fed meat to the farm shop, Geoff has now returned to his butchery roots, and will be a welcome face to customers over the busy festive period.

“It’s great to be back behind the meat counter serving customers again,” said Geoff. “My experience as both a farmer and a butcher means I can offer a unique insight to customers about where the meat they are buying has come from and advise them on the best cuts of meat for their needs and budgets.

“Our customers know that if they buy from the farm shop we can tell them all about their food’s journey from farm to plate as well as making cooking and serving suggestions to them, and it’s this experience and personal touch that I am really excited about sharing with them again! “With Christmas fast approaching, we have much more to offer than just locally sourced, free range turkeys. We’ve got a whole range of festive treats, not just meats, in stock and I’m looking forward to recommending the best of them to our customers and ensuring their Christmas and New Year celebrations are a success!”
