Fifty firefighters put out a blaze at Blackpool's Central Pier, which has reportedly caused extensive damage.
The fire seemed to start at a workshop halfway along the pier. Ten fire engines began arriving just after 3am on Friday, and the blaze was soon under control.
Mark Winder of the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Fortunately early firefighter action has extinguished the fire to the extent there is no visible flame."
The promenade around the pier soon reopened after it was temporarily closed.
The fire comes at a difficult time for the resort, which has only recently been able to resume its tourism season after being shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.
An investigation will be conducted into the cause of the fire.
