As a proud member of Blackburn Youth Zone’s Patrons Network, we enjoy working closely alongside the organisation, getting involved with events on a regular basis to help raise funds, garner support, and spread the word about the important work that they do in helping the young people of Blackburn and the surrounding areas.
This Easter break, we were pleased to once again help out with their Zone to Home programme - a scheme which is delivered around the major holidays in an effort to see BYZ’s network of support extended to reach young people directly at home.
“We were previously involved with Zone to Home at Christmastime, and it was an absolute pleasure to get involved again during the recent Easter holidays,” says F&W compliance officer, Olivia Fagan. “This Zone to Home project was headed up by BYZ’s Alice Dysart, and saw their team put together 450 Easter activity boxes to help with keeping the children active and engaged during the Easter break. There were all different themes, including gardening and crafts, which gave the children the opportunity to learn and develop new skills.
“Blackburn Youth Zone enlisted our team to help with getting the activity boxes into the hands of the people they were made for, so we went and collected them and then distributed them across four schools and community centres in the area.
“It was once again a pleasure to work alongside Blackburn Youth Zone on this project. Since becoming a member of the Patrons Network back in October 2020, we’ve organised and participated in a number of fundraising events, and worked hard on campaigns designed specifically to raise awareness of who they are and what great work they do.
Recently, our efforts led to the launch of a new BYZ-branded vehicle, which has been out on the roads conducting local deliveries around Blackburn, Darwen, Burnley, and the wider East Lancashire area, flying the flag for the youth zone and drumming up interest in who they are as an organisation. We can’t wait to see what the BYZ calendar holds for the rest of the year!”
