Since we expanded into a new 208,000 sq. ft. warehousing space at Frontier Park in 2021, work has been underway to rehouse our cross-dock operations to the new site. We’re now pleased to announce that the switch has been successfully implemented, and Frontier Park is officially the new home of our cross-dock function and Freight Operations team!
“Facilitating our groupage services and pallet network operations, the fundamentals of our cross-dock facilities have remained largely unchanged since the move from Site One. However, we have found that, overall, it’s much slicker and the space is being used more efficiently,” says F&W operations strategy director, Daniel Wood. “Having our main cross-dock functioning out of Frontier Park, supported by our smaller facility in Coventry, also offers us greater scope for growth in terms of capacity, so we can now seek to expand this area of the business even further.
“The cross-dock team, managed and supported by David Southern, our head of freight operations, and Graham Bridges, our hands-on cross-dock manager, currently handles around 1,200 pallets a day, which amounts to anywhere between 25 and 40 loads onto our own trucks, and up to eight loads onto pallet network trucks.
“We’re now working towards finalising the cross-dock facility, and we’re preparing to do the line marking now that we’re confident that the system we have implemented works. In terms of future development, we’re seeking to invest further into this area of the business, and intend to introduce a new cross-dock IT management system at some stage over the next twelve months.
“The new site is very well suited to this new use, and is appreciated by team members too, as they’re now under cover while they work as opposed to being exposed to the elements!
“We pleased to see our Freight Operations team also settling well into their new home having relocated alongside our cross-dock from Site One. This has allowed us to reconsider the uses of Site One; it remains the chief site for our articulated vehicle operations and it also houses our vehicle workshop, whilst the space that used to be taken up by the cross-dock now provides us with additional storage space for our clients.”
