A Leyland funeral director is ‘celebrating’ his first birthday with a present to a local cancer charity.
David Cowburn, in partnership with his wife Suzanne, set up as an independent funeral director and began trading in March 2012. Twelve months later, the couple felt it right to recognise the landmark with a gift – that could help to prolong and even save lives. The couple donated a ‘birthday’ gift of £200 to the work of the Preston-based Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Laura Stephenson, area fundraising co-ordinator for the charity, visited the Towngate premises to receive the cheque.
David explained: “David Cowburn Funeral Directors is a Leyland business run by Leyland people. We’re delighted that over the last 12 months we have been accepted by the community. It’s great that they are able to use our services.“We are very grateful for the start we have had in our first year of trading and this is a way of not only marking the anniversary, but giving something back. It’s a fantastic cause, helping local people, Rosemere do great work in research, providing equipment, improving lives, we are happy to help however we can.”
On behalf of Rosemere, Laura said: “Despite the fact we are a local cancer charity, many people don’t know we are here or what we do. So to be supported by local businesses just means so much. It raises awareness and makes such a difference. The money that we raise helps so many and stretches far and wide.“I am very passionate about local people helping local people. This is a fantastic donation, we really appreciate David and Suzanne’s generosity. It’s wonderful to have their backing and we congratulate them on their first birthday.”
It wouldn’t be a celebration without a cake. Along with the charity gift, the Cowburns marked their first year in business with a specially designed and well deserved birthday cake.Enjoyed this? Read more from Leyland Leader
