This week is a significant milestone for ‘Darts Match’ the cross-platform darts-based app produced by Motionlab Interactive as it marks the first anniversary since its release, scoring over 600,000 downloads in the process.
Launched last March via iOS, Android and Windows Phone, a remarkable 2 million online games have been played over the past 12 months with over 280 million darts thrown as a daily deluge of darters continue to take to the virtual oche in games of 501, 301, Around The Clock and Cricket.Extensive engagement with the online darting community upon submission of the game to the relevant stores has played a big part in its unending success with a conscious targeting of darts forums and magazines, fan sites and utilisation of social media channels helping build up a loyal following.
Enhancements such as the integration of world, local and friend leaderboards, greater statistical analysis and a wealth of darts customisation has enabled Darts Match to retain many of those darting devotees who regularly complement the simplicity of the intuitive swipe motion it employs. An unknown quantity within the gaming market at the time due to Darts Match being Motionlab Interactive’s debut outing, the specialist division was spotlighted for their efforts last September by Microsoft who listed the app in the Top 10 of their ‘Beautiful Game’ competition.
It also gained an enormously positive review in the ‘Sun’ newspaper, still rides high in the respective store charts where it has attracted thousands of user reviews and has found favour amongst many of the sport’s biggest stars in both the PDC and BDO, likely contributors to the 762,469 maximum scores of 180 so far recorded. The upcoming implementation of tournament play will give players further motivation to go toe-to-toe against their fellow flingers by means of their chosen mobile device. Motionlab’s head of apps, Alan I’Anson said: “Darts Match has confounded our expectations in so far as how it has been universally embraced in what is a hugely competitive gaming category. Our quest is to now expand that user base further and make it the number one darts offering across the board, so to speak, which we intend to do by incorporating more of our users’ online darting desires.”
