A proud father celebrated his son’s 18th birthday, by treating him to his first legal pint at the very same pub where he enjoyed his first ale 36 years ago.
Sean Murphy (54) and his son Kenny (18), visited the Fenwick in Claughton to continue the family tradition which began in 1980 when Sean’s father took him for his first pint at the popular gastro pub.“My wife and I thought this would be a nice way to celebrate Kenny’s 18th birthday; he really enjoyed his first pint of Wainwrights and was thrilled to hear that I had also enjoyed my first pint here, along with his grandad,” said Sean.
Sean, his wife Diane and son Kenny now live in Kirby Lonsdale, and so regularly like to visit the Fenwick. He added: “It’s certainly changed since I supped my first pint of Tetley’s back in the day; I remember as youngsters we used to get sent to another area of the pub, while our father’s smoked cigars and enjoyed their real ale.”
The Fenwick was bought by the award-winning Seafood Pub Company group three years ago, undergoing a huge refurbishment, including adding nine beautiful bedrooms to its offering, transforming the pub into a busy and thriving Claughton landmark. The Seafood Pub Company group also boasts eight other stunning venues across Lancashire.Tom Wilkinson, general manager at the Fenwick, said: “We were delighted to hear the lovely story about Sean and Kenny. We know the Fenwick has a colourful history, so it’s always interesting to hear stories first hand. “They enjoyed a lovely evening and we’re looking forward to seeing them again soon!”
