Lancashire County Council has announced that it will invest £1.1m in the new Youth Zone in Chorley.
The new Chorley Youth Zone, named ‘Inspire’ by local young people, will be sited on Railway Street, where Chorley Community Centre, the Leigh Arms public house and a temporary car park once stood. Demolition is well underway and work has now started following the 'ground breaking' ceremony, which took place last week.
In addition, the Youth Zone will offer enterprise training, mentoring and apprenticeships for all young people, to help provide new experiences and create a more positive future for them.
"It’s a really exciting project that will provide a place where young people can go in their leisure time; a place where they can get advice and support and take part in a wide range of activities.”
“Our young people will not only be able to take part in a range of sports, media, arts in a safe and inspiring place, but they will also be supported to help them achieve their true potential.” Janine Blythe, chief executive of Chorley Youth Zone said: “Everyone associated with Inspire Youth Zone is thrilled with Lancashire County Council’s investment into Chorley’s young people. The Youth Zone will see thousands of young people come through its doors and the support of both councils will help make this a reality.”
