Cognite, a Lancshire based performance psychology consultancy, has partnered with St Helens rugby league during the course of two historic seasons.
In the 2021 season, Saints completed the 'three-peat', winning both their third Super League title and the Challenge Cup, equalling the record held by Leeds Rhinos. This year, St Helens took this a step further, winning their fourth Grand Final in succession at Old Trafford, achieving something that has never been done before in the Super League era.
Tom Young, director and founder of Cognite, has worked with the players and staff on areas such as team dynamics, leadership, values, and purpose, all focused on driving a high performance culture. Young said:
"It has been a real privilege to work with such a fantastic group. The players and staff immediately bought into our work together. It's hard to define what a 'high performance culture' looks like, but I would say this is definitely one. What they have achieved is even more impressive in a salary-capped sport."
Kristian Woolf, the outgoing Head Coach at St Helens, who now returns home to Australia said, "Tom has worked with St Helens since the start of the 2021 season. He has been instrumental in objectifying our values and how they link to our overarching purpose.
His authentic, humble and collaborative style has steered the group to trust and connect with the process. Highly recommended performance psychologist in the field of team dynamics and leadership."
