The purchasing director of Chorley-based anti-car theft specialist, Disklok, has raced home to victory in the 750 Motor Clubs’ 2016 Road-Going Bike-engined (RGB) Championship.
Matt Higginson successfully regained the class title this year, winning it for the fourth time after winning all 12 class races in his AB Performance Arion S2 vehicle and, with it, his third overall title. The Championship is a development formula for two-seater sports-racing cars powered by one-litre four-stroke motorbike engines. Cars can be ‘one-off’ designs, kit cars or converted sports specials, with entrants in two classes to cater for different layouts.
Matt’s latest racing achievement adds to a lifetime’s enthusiasm for motor sports across the Higginson family. His father invented the Disklok anti-theft steering wheel device more than twenty years ago, founding the Charnock Richard-based company that has been the market leader ever since. The company has sponsored the Championship since 2014 and Matt was the 2013 and 2014 national champion, and 2015 class champion, before winning the 2016 title.
For the fourth consecutive year, Matt was sponsored by Chorley-based accountancy firm, R P Smith & Co, which also acts for Disklok as the company’s accountant.Kieran Brophy, partner at R P Smith & Co, said, “Matt puts the same passion into driving as he does into the family business, which is why he’s as successful on the track as he is in the office. We’re delighted to congratulate him on his achievement once again and proud to be involved in supporting the affordable end of formula car racing.”
The final races were held at the Donnington Grand Prix circuit on 2nd October, following a season that also saw him achieve three further lap records at Oulton Park Island, Croft and Brands Hatch Indy. Matt added, “I’d like to thank R P Smith & Co and all our sponsors for helping to make this such a successful season. It’s great to bring home another trophy to Disklok and I can’t wait to get back out on the track for the 2017 season.”Enjoyed this? Read more from Disklok
