As part of our commitment to community involvement, we became proud members of Blackburn Youth Zone’s Patrons Network back in October 2020, aiding the BYZ team in their goals to provide much-needed support and care services to the young people of Blackburn and Darwen.
Blackburn Youth Zone exists to help young people in the area achieve a bright future by promoting cohesion, encouraging aspirations, supporting skills development for personal and professional growth, and making continual investments into maintaining general health and mental wellbeing.
“We were pleased to work alongside the team at Blackburn Youth Zone in incorporating a new BYZ-branded vehicle into our fleet earlier this year, designed to raise awareness of their services and the amazing work they do,” says F&W Brand and marketing executive, Chris Corrigan. “Whilst the vehicle - a 12-tonne rigid DAF LF - has been out on the roads conducting deliveries in the local area for a short while now, we were keen to organise an official launch event which would provide us with the opportunity to meet some of BYZ’s young members and chat to them about careers in the logistics industry, and National Lorry Week seemed to be a perfect time to do just that.”
With around 80 people in attendance, the event, which took place on Wednesday 29th October, attracted children of all ages, and gave the older ones the opportunity to chat to F&W team members about the types of careers available within the company and the wider industry.
“We are immensely proud to support Blackburn Youth Zone, and what better way to show our support than on the side of one of our trucks?” says F&W chief executive, Graham Fagan. “The youth zone offers vital support to children, young people and their families in Blackburn and Darwen, and we were pleased to play a part in that through this event. It was fantastic to speak to the young people about our industry, and we hope to have inspired some of them to consider careers in the haulage industry in the future.”
“Blackburn Youth Zone prides itself on offering amazing, life-enhancing experiences to young people in the borough,” says Hannah Allen, chief executive of Blackburn Youth Zone. “It was lovely to see so many of them attending the launch of our BYZ truck and hearing their questions for Graham and Stephen Fagan. We hope as many people as possible will keep their eyes peeled on the roads to enter our competition.”
The charity’s competition, set to run until 17th December, will see one lucky winner awarded a £50 voucher for The Mall, just in time for Christmas! To enter, all you’ll need to do is snap a picture of the BYZ truck if you spot it out on the roads - safely, of course - and upload it to social media with the hashtag #BYZTruck, tagging the official Blackburn Youth Zone and Fagan & Whalley pages.Interested in finding out more about careers at Fagan & Whalley?
