A metallic gold bus has been commissioned by Hyndburn Borough Council, in partnership with Town and District Transport Trust (TDTT), to mark the coronation of King Charles III. The bus will be a focal point of coronation activities and transport people from across the borough to various events throughout the year.
TDTT are a volunteer led organisation, based in Accrington, who have a large collection of heritage and modern vehicles they work to preserve for future generations to enjoy.
The bus features the official emblem for the upcoming coronation alongside the royal crest, Hyndburn Council and TDTT logos.
Coun Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Council, said: “I am so pleased that Hyndburn Council are supporting Town and District Transport Trust and their great work through commissioning this wonderful eye-catching bus.
"The idea for this bus came about after the huge success of the Jubilee bus last year, which enabled thousands of people to visit the various parks and green spaces in Hyndburn. With a brilliant line-up of events already confirmed this is another fantastic addition for what is set to be a great year ahead.”
The gold bus will feature in the official procession ceremony on Saturday 6th May for the Coronation of King Charles III and offer transport from Hyndburn’s townships to the main events planned for 2023 including: the Great Harwood Show, the #AmazingAccrington Food Festival and the #AmazingAccrington Soapbox Challenge.
Coun Marlene Haworth, portfolio holder for events, said: “Not only will this bus help Hyndburn stand out in the upcoming coronation events, it will enable the events throughout the year to be more inclusive and accessible.
"For me it is vital we involve all townships across the borough in the planned activities, this bus will therefore be available to transport people for free to the main events and I am really looking forward to using it myself.
"At Hyndburn Council we fund many events throughout the year that are free for families to attend, having this bus helps to eliminate the cost of getting there too.”
