With 2,350 pupils enjoying an education from Nursery to Sixth Form, we are one of the largest schools in the UK.
By Sue Hincks, headmistress, Bolton School Girls’ Division and Philip Britton, headmaster, Bolton School Boys’ Division. The school balances the best of tradition with cutting-edge modernity. This year we are celebrating our 500th anniversary since Bolton School was first mentioned as “a going concern” but this illustrious heritage is enhanced by the recent completion of an £18m building programme, which has seen the construction of a new shared Sixth Form Centre, a co-educational Infant School, Junior Girls’ School and a refurbished Junior Boys’ School.
Inspections regularly assess the school as “excellent” in all categories and annual exam results place the school among the top in the country. In last year’s DfE ranking of schools by GCSE results the Girls’ Division was the highest performing independent school in the country and 25th against all schools nationally.
Our “best of both worlds” offer means girls and boys in Years 3 and above can focus on their studies in single-sex classes but regularly collaborate in co-educational activities such as music, drama, outdoor pursuits and trips abroad. Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 15 October (9.30am – 1.00pm). We will also hold Sixth Form Open Evenings on 8 November at 6.45pm (Boys) and 17 November at 7.00pm (Girls) and, of course, you can always arrange a private tour of any section of the school during term time by calling 01204 840201.
