Information released by Duport.co.uk shows that 155 new companies were formed in Blackpool in May 2012. The previous record of 130 for the month of May had been set in 2007, before the recession.
The figures were collated from the official Register of Companies at Companies House.
“Blackpool has smashed a formations record that has stood for five years with these May figures," said Duport.co.uk's Managing Director Peter Valaitis.
“This is remarkable news for the town, and it looks as though entrepreneurship in Blackpool is now higher than it was before the credit crunch began.”
Blackpool has always been a tourist hotspot, and with more families looking to stay in the UK this summer instead of the added expense of holidaying abroad, Blackpool is in a great position to benefit from an influx of visitors.
But Blackpool's famous pier, tower and pleasure beach are not the only attractions to bring in tourists this summer, as the new Blackpool Tower Headland Outdoor Arena looks set to become a popular venue for big names in music.
Sport is also boosting Blackpool's popularity in 2012 with golf's Open Championship being held just down the road at Royal Lytham & St Anne's Golf Club. This prestigious tournament will encourage many tourists to the area in July 2012.
