The Blackpool Laundry Company has successfully tendered for a place on an NHS framework which will see it provide its specialist cleaning services.
The firm has been appointed by the North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC), an entity wholly owned by the NHS.
BLC was founded in 1988 by Brian and Joan Oldroyd, who were hoteliers frustrated with trying to find a reliable laundry service.
Remaining a family business, it has now evolved its services and employs a workforce of nearly 50. Today it caters for customers in the hospitality and catering, healthcare, transport, local government and manufacturing industries.
The company processes up to 120,000 items per week and has capacity for nearly as much again. It is a member of both the National Laundry Group, a network of 30 independent laundries across the UK, and the Textile Services Association (TSA), the UK trade association for the laundry industry.
Mark Oldroyd, managing director, said: "Healthcare is an important and growing market for BLC. We are thrilled to be chosen as a supplier for NOE CPC and look forward to supplying the NHS with this vital service.
"As one of a handful of independent laundries in the country to be accredited with BS EN 14065 (laundry biocontamination and control system - the gold standard of textile disinfection), we are ideally placed to help keep the NHS and its patients supplied with hygienically clean linen."
