As part of a wider series of donations to Trussell Trust food banks across the North West, housebuilder Bellway has made a financial donation of £150 to the Skelmersdale Food Bank.
After a difficult year and with the festive holiday fast approaching, the cash will go towards supporting the foodbank to provide emergency food parcels to people in need in Skelmersdale and the surrounding areas in the run-up to Christmas.
Working to stop hunger and poverty, the Trussell Trust is a national network of food banks that is run by volunteers and provides emergency food and additional support to people in crisis all year round.
The Trussell Trust’s Skelmersdale Food Bank operates from the Ecumenical Centre on Northway and is run by a passionate team of local volunteers who work tirelessly to fundraise for the food bank and ensure emergency food parcels are received by those in need.
This year, it has fed 1774 clients with its emergency food boxes, which includes more than 700 children. The food bank distributes food to people via three distribution points in Skelmersdale town, which includes delivery for clients unable to travel to collect.
Project manager at the Skelmersdale Food Bank, Tim Bleazard, said: “While recent support for food banks has been fantastic, we rely on continual donations of food or financial support from companies or individuals within our local community to deliver our vital service on an ongoing basis. We are grateful for support of any kind, and Bellway’s kind donation will enable us to purchase additional food parcels this month and further ease the pressure on some of the vulnerable in our community this Christmas.”
Sales director at Bellway, Jenny Bell, said: “Bellway is committed to giving back to the communities in which it develops, and despite the pandemic, we have continued with most of our fundraising initiatives this year. With food banks experiencing unprecedented demand, members of our team in Lathom wanted to do something to help at a very local level that can hopefully make a small difference in Skelmersdale and the surrounding areas.”
