BAE Systems has announced that it will continue to recruit apprentices, creating 800 jobs in the UK of which around a quarter will be based in the north west.
The news comes against a backdrop of job losses in the aerospace industry, with significant numbers of redundancies at Rolls-Royce and Safran Nacelles.
Research published by the Resolution Foundation has also found that those born in the late 1990s are expected to be hardest hit by the current crisis.
