BAE Systems has been awarded ‘Macro Employer of the Year’ at the National Apprenticeship Awards in London, recognising the company’s dedication for delivering high-quality apprenticeships.
The Awards, now in their twelfth year, are run by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognise businesses that grow their own talent through apprenticeships and individual apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, skills minister Nick Boles, said: “Congratulations to BAE Systems for your success at the National Apprenticeship Awards. Apprenticeships truly are set to be one of the great success stories of the decade and BAE Systems is a worthy ambassador.
Steve Fogg, managing director, BAE Systems Shared Services, commented: "We are delighted to be awarded Macro Employer of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards in recognition of our commitment to developing young talent.
Joanne Sharples, a BAE Systems apprentice who was shortlisted for the ‘Higher Apprentice of the Year’ award, was highly commended for her role as an apprentice ambassador and for her work on complex engineering projects such as the F-35 and the Typhoon at the Company's Military Air and Information business based at RAF Coningsby.
For the first time the company will also offer a masters level apprenticeship, with 18 employees due to start the Systems Engineering Level 7 apprenticeship at Cranfield University this year.
