After winning the coveted Lancashire Construction Apprenticeship award in 2022, Matt Winstone is yet again shining bright, showcasing the star quality of an apprenticeship in 2023.
Matt Winstone is a Blackburn College, Level 3 site carpentry and joinery apprentice, and not only was he a winner of the Lancashire Construction Apprenticeship award in 2022, but also the winner of his employer Star Award at Places for People.
Aged 19, Matt is achieving great things and enjoying the success of choosing an apprenticeship as a route to his future career.
His approach to his apprenticeship and decision to choose this route was clear.
“I wanted to do something practical. The hands-on approach, I feel you learn quicker because you’re doing the work and it’s great to earn at the same time. I’m wanting to do a HNC in construction.”
Andrew Wheeler, home improvement supervisor at Places for People, said: “The apprenticeship has allowed Matt to get to the stage, where once he would need a mentor and we would have to assist him, but now he is independent, and he’ll go and complete the job on his own.
“It’s great to see a young keen joiner, he’s keen to learn and do the job.”
Matt has excelled in his apprenticeship recently gaining a distinction in his Level 3 End Point Assessment, which is a great achievement alongside his winning award.
“Places for People have really supported me and helped me get through the course,” he said.
“I was really happy to win the employer star award at Places for People and I’m looking forward to progressing further in the company.”
The apprenticeship standard has been developed by employers to ensure the most relevant and up-to-date skill gaps are met within the modern construction industry.
