Blackburn-based nuclear engineering company Assystem has appointed Simon Barber as its UK business development director.
He joins the company from Arup and brings a wealth of industry experience, having worked closely with Rolls-Royce during the early stages of their Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development and with UKAEA, helping them to develop the STEP fusion programme.
In his new role, Simon will be key to delivering Assystem’s high-level strategic aims in the UK, capitalising on current opportunities in the civil nuclear market and cementing the company as a key player in the industry.
Peter Higton, managing director of Assystem UK, said: "Simon joins us at a pivotal time in our growth in the UK, as we are ready to capitalise on the exciting developments ahead for the energy sector, by bringing the right skills, knowledge and people to support the innovative, low carbon technology projects in the UK today."
