The galleries are located in the 13th century triforium, high above the Abbey floor. The renovations give public access to 'staggering aerial views' that had once been restricted to stonemasons, maintenance staff and TV crews.
Aspinalls won the contract in June 2017, completing works to a tight schedule in time for the official opening by HM The Queen and HRH Prince Charles this month. The team worked closely with the Abbey’s in-house crew to design the structures which display the Abbey’s greatest treasures and tell the story of the Abbey’s thousand-year history.
Simon Aspinall, director, said: “It has been a real privilege and pleasure to have been involved with this special project and it is gratifying to know that our work will be appreciated by visitors to the gallery for generations to come." Aspinalls is a family-owned business launched in 1974 when Paul Aspinall Snr opened a small fabrication company in Morecambe to service the needs of the local process industry. The company has previously worked on projects at the Victoria and Albert museum and Selfridges in London, as well as with clients overseas.
