A social care recruiter has enabled staff working in its field to gain qualifications essential to their roles.
Ashberry Recruitment organised and supplemented a Team Teach two-day course for 12 people who needed the qualification in order to gain or stay in employment. One of Ashberry’s specialisms is the recruitment of social care candidates for various full time and temporary positions within residential care facilities.
Kate Mallinson, director, said: “Due to sensitive nature of such roles, those applying for the positions have to know how to deal with situations in which they may find themselves during a working day, and as such, they have to gain a recognised qualification.“We had a number of suitable candidates wanting to take on positions we had on offer, but they did not have the recognised paperwork and many did not have the upfront funds to carry out the training needed; which is why we decided to step in.”
Team Teach is a nationally recognised accredited course which enables people to understand where behaviour comes from, how to avoid arguments and conflicts or deal with situations should they escalate.Simon Holding, senior Team Teach tutor, said: "It is important for staff to have knowledge and understanding of risk reduction strategies when supporting people who challenge, with the emphasis on the use of verbal, non-verbal de-escalation strategies being used and exhausted before positive handling strategies are utilised. The training enables staff to gain confidence and maintain positive relationships with the people they support.” Now that the candidates have gained the Team Teach accreditation they will be put forward for current and future roles within the social care sector.
