The Amazon delivery station in Leyland has invested in more than 20 fully electric delivery vans.
The move is part of the retail giant's commitment to be net zero carbon by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050. More than 500 of the Mercedes-Benz will be distributed throughout the UK.
Kerry-Anne Lawlor, UK Country Director for Amazon Logistics said: “Amazon has added electric delivery vehicles from Mercedes-Benz as part of our journey to build the most sustainable transportation fleet in the world, and have been moving fast to get these vans on the road this year.”
Independent logistics companies have access to the zero-emission vehicles to make deliveries to Amazon customers, helping to save tens of thousands of metric tons of carbon.
Mark Pass, owner of Condor Carriers Limited, said: “It’s really exciting to have our first electric vehicles on the road in the Preston area and the response from drivers and customers has been fantastic.”
