The Regional Meeting of the North West Soroptimists was held on June 27 at Lancaster University.
Alison Driver from Metis HR gave a speech in front of more than 80 NW members outlining the benefits of Social Media as a powerful communicational and promotional business tool.A member for the past two years, Alison outlined how, with experience of utilising social media to grow her own business, she introduced Rossendale Soroptimists to the opportunities on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Now with nearly 400 followers, Rossendale Soroptimists are leading the way online and attempting to buck the national trend of declining Soroptimism membership. To illustrate the success of social media in promoting the Rossendale Club, Alison showcased two examples:
Last autumn social media was used (via Twitter, Facebook and the Valley at Work network) to maximise awareness of a charity fashion show – culminating in over £1,700 worth of donated raffle prizes.Another success story was advertising an open meeting (at which a Soroptimist regional speaker was a guest) on Facebook. This achieved five new visitors, with at least two of these joining the membership since that meeting.
A couple of tweets were picked up from those present:Garstang Soroptimists said: “Great talk by Alison Driver today, social media a fantastic tool for us to use." A Soroptimist from Lancaster said: "Not thought of using Facebook this way. Will certainly take it back to SI Lancaster"
