There has been a significant increase in the number of local authorities choosing Roadshow Promotions to take the adult numeracy initiative Multiply into their communities with a promotional bus.
According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and as noted by UK Parliament [1] 57.4 per cent of UK adults have numeracy skills equal to or lower than those expected of a 9-11 year old.
Across the UK, local authorities and training companies have been helping to address this issue with Multiply, a government initiative to help adults develop their numeracy skills and understand how these skills can be applied in daily life at home and work.
The challenge is getting the message to the people who need it, especially those harder to reach communities. That’s why Runway Training, a leading provider of specialist support for adult learners chose to take Multiply mobile.
They shared their vision with Lancashire-based Roadshow Promotions, who converted one of their modular promotional buses, added external and internal branding, and took numeracy into local communities. Most recently, the Multiply bus successfully toured Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. And there have been more and more requests for these educational buses to support the roll out of Multiply.
With more tours already planned for local authorities in the South, North and Midlands, it’s clear that councils have realised the impact that such a campaign can have in the community.
The double decker training buses aim to engage with people, making stops at relevant locations that capture the attention of the community. The educational buses serve as mobile learning hubs, providing interactive experiences and educational resources to help adults enhance their numeracy skills and gain confidence in using them in their daily lives.
Each bus that is converted for the Multiply initiative has been tailored to fit the specific needs of the tour with external and internal branding, a seating layout to aid learning, as well as a hospitality and kitchen area to provide refreshments for visitors. As well as the promotional bus Blackpool-based Roadshow Promotions also supply a driver and take care of all the logistics for the tours.
The modular design of Mutliply buses allows for quick recommissioning during breaks in tours, ensuring that local authorities and training providers are able to deploy the bus to suit local goals, events and communities.
