Accrington Stanley Women have launched an exciting campaign to raise funds for a new minibus for the club.

On Sunday 30th April, Stanley Women take on The Isle of Man National Women’s Team in an historic free-to-attend match at The Wham Stadium, which will also include a half-time crossbar challenge.

The crossbar challenge, which is being sponsored by Sundown Solutions, will be led by world record holder and 18-time World’s Strongest Man competitor Mark Felix.

The strongman legend will kick-off an attempt at hitting the crossbar, with a successful strike set to secure £10,000 towards a new minibus for the club.

Sami Smithson, Chair of Accrington Stanley Women, said: “Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to Mark Felix for heading up our crossbar challenge. He has just competed in his 18th World’s Strongest Man competition and we will be honoured to have him with us.

“As a club we are always looking to improve and having our own minibus to travel to away games next season would be fantastic for us.

“I can’t think of a better time and place than our historic match against The Isle of Man National Women’s Team at the Wham Stadium to launch our fundraising attempts and we look forward to further exciting initiatives in the future.”

Heath Groves, CEO of Sundown Solutions who are sponsors of Accrington Stanley Women, commented: “On what it is going to be a memorable occasion for everyone involved with Accrington Stanley Women, we are proud to be sponsoring the crossbar challenge which will kickstart a fantastic series of fundraising events and plans for the club. They are looking to raise £35,000 by Christmas, so we want to support.

“As a business, Sundown have been supporting grassroots football for some time now as we see the huge benefit that it brings to our local communities, and this is something which we are determined to continue.”

Accrington Stanley Women and The Isle of Man National Women’s Team kicks off at 3pm on Sunday 30th April, following a pitchside parade celebrating the success of women’s football in the local area, including the 180 players who currently play for Accrington Stanley Women at various age levels, in full Sundown Solutions sponsored match kit.

The match, which takes place at The Wham Stadium, is free to attend for all.
