Accrington Stanley will host a food bank collection at the Wham Stadium on Saturday 29th March before their game against Bradford City, in aid of local charity Maundy Relief.
The collection will take place between 12pm and 3pm, while there will be further opportunities to donate in the weeks before the game.
For those that are unable to donate at the Wham Stadium on 29th March, another drop off point in the week before the game is The Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST) shop in the Arndale, while food supplies can also be dropped directly at Maundy Relief on Abbey Street.
Accrington Stanley are working in collaboration with the OASST and #AmazingAccrington on the project and are encouraging supporters from both Stanley and Bradford to bring along donations on the day, however big or small.
The most sought-after goods include UHT milk, coffee, biscuits, tinned meat/fish, soups, tinned beans and vegetables, pasta, rice and pasta sauces.
Items which are collected on the day will then be transported to Maundy Relief and included in food parcels for local people in need.
Warren Eastham, Accrington Stanley CEO, said: “This is a fantastic community initiative and one which we are passionate to support as a club. Any donations that both our supporters and the Bradford fans can make, will be greatly appreciated.”
Lucy Hardwick, Maundy Relief CEO, said: “On behalf of everyone at Maundy Relief I would like to thank Accrington Stanley for their wonderful support. They have been running the food bank collection for many years now and the impact it has cannot be underestimated.”
Murray Dawson, Amazing Accrington chair, said: “We are really proud to support the food bank collection and we are calling on our fellow #AmazingAccrington business leaders to get involved and donate as much food as they can on the day.”
Peter Leatham, chairman of the OASST, said: “The food bank collection is always a great day, with many fans coming together to support their local community. For those that can’t make it but would like to donate, come and find us in the Arndale, where we will also be collecting food items for Maundy Relief.”
