School children from Longridge certainly weren’t fish out of water, as they learned the art of making fishcakes for the very first time; they were naturals!
The workshop was part of the Little Oysters Cookery Club, an initiative that launched this school year. Antony Shirley, executive chef at the Seafood Pub Company runs the Club.
“Not only do we deliver presentations in assemblies to schools across the county, we also invite school children to our pub venues to learn, first hand how to make simple fish dishes such as fishcakes.
The 28 school children used a selection of ingredients including cod, prawns, cheese, herbs and mash potato. Adam demonstrated how to make the fishcakes and then the children were split into groups and were able to attempt their own. From binding the ingredients to form the basic fishcake shape, to eagerly awaiting their fishcake to cook so they could try the finished result, it was an exciting morning for everyone involved.
