Cable TV and broadband provider Virgin Media is to centralise its customer service department in Birmingham at a cost of 88 Preston jobs.
A 45-day consultation period will begin this week, with redundancies expected to start in October through into 2015.Some staff may be offered the opportunity to relocate to the Birmingham operation.
A company statement read: “We will do everything we can to help anyone affected find a new role, either within Virgin Media or elsewhere.“We are proposing to move our billing and collections teams from Preston to our Birmingham office to create one centre of excellence.”
Virgin Media operates out of Cable House on Frenchwood Avenue, Preston. The division was established in 2006 when Telewest merged with Virgin. Similar cuts have also been announced for the firm's Bradford operation.
