Bamber Bridge is set to be transformed as part of a £3.5m ‘super scheme’ after planning applications for the project were given the green light.
The centre of the town will become a tree-lined avenue with a public garden and there will be major upgrades to Station Road with wider footpaths, enhanced crossings and improved parking – both outside of the shops and a greater long-stay provision.
A welcome sign, similar in appearance to the iconic Lostock Hall War Memorial will also be erected at the junction of Station Road and Lostock Lane. It will be sponsored by major employer for the area, Baxi.
The works will form a blueprint for regeneration projects also already announced for Penwortham, Leyland and Lostock Hall.
Coun Phil Smith, cabinet member for regeneration and leisure, said: “Bamber Bridge has never seen investment like this and it’s an incredibly exciting time for residents and businesses.
“With the help of City Deal, we have been able to design a super scheme which is beyond anything we could have ever dreamt.”
“This exciting scheme is a great example of how the City Deal will make a tangible difference to a local community as it transforms the centre of Bamber Bridge.”
It will help to create more than 20,000 new private sector jobs and see over 17,000 new homes built across the area, along with new school places, open green spaces and new health provision to cater for the growing population.
