Freelancer co-ops, what are they and why do they work?

It’s tough being a freelancer, working alone. It’s also tough being the boss, employing others. There is a middle way, setting up a worker or freelancer’s co-op, owning a business together, as equals. Cooperatives are more than twice as likely to survive the first few years of trading.  John Atherton of Preston Co-op Development Network will share some insights on this often overlooked business model.

This event will be perfect for anyone who works freelance, often works with freelancers, or is curious about this business model. The event is free to attend and refreshments will be provided, but registration is required.

The Event:

  • Arrive from 2pm for coffee and to network with other attendees
  • John will give a presentation on co-ops – how they work, their benefits, and the details of this lesser known business model.
  • Q&A session with the expert and other attendees.
  • John will be available for 1 to 1’s with anyone to answer specific questions or help with business scenarios.

John has been a business consultant specialising in co-operative and community business forms for 20 years and will be available after the talk to provide advice and support to anyone interested in evolving their business.
