Business, political and civic leaders came together in Lancashire to share experiences and opportunities and to learn from a former Chancellor of the Exchequer who served under both Margaret Thatcher and John Major.
Lord Norman Lamont of Lerwick held seven cabinet posts and is the only politician ever to have held the top three Treasury jobs of Financial Secretary, Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Chancellor.
The intimate dinner for 50 Lancashire Leaders was organised by Lancashire Business View (LBV) magazine and staged at the Michelin-starred Northcote in the Ribble Valley.
“While there are similarities, there are also key differences in leadership in business and political environments,” he said. “In politics, because of media and public scrutiny, it’s like having a shareholders meeting every day.”
“Events like this remind us all, whether in business, political or civic life, that we have a common vision – making Lancashire a better place to live, work, invest, learn and play.”
Keith Melling, partner and head of commercial division at Napthens, said: “When the idea of the Lancashire Leaders dinner was first raised, we felt it was exactly the kind of event for Napthens to be associated with. Bringing together some of the county’s most entrepreneurial and successful business owners and managers at a fantastic venue with an interesting guest speaker made for a great event.”
