The Lancashire Business Environment Awards 2012 were held at Ewood Park, Blackburn, and were attended by more than 300 members of the Lancashire business community.

Myerscough College won the Energy Efficiency Award for Large Companies, after it reduced the amount of electricity used on site by 13%, gas by 11% and water by 25%. Its travel planning programmes have also reduced fuel consumption by 19%.

Crown Paints was crowned the Sustainable Large Business of the Year for the development of their eco-friendly paint range ‘earthbalance’ and organisation-wide reduction in waste and energy.

The awards, which are managed by Groundwork Pennine Lancashire, were judged by the event sponsors and fellow members of the business community. Halite Energy joined Herbert Parkinson in judging the social impact categories whilst Lucite International, Neales Waste Management and Pannone Law Firm judged the environmental and overall sustainability categories.

“It has been inspiring to see how many businesses and organisations in Lancashire are taking a sustainable approach to their future operations,” said Mick Smith, director at Groundwork Pennine Lancashire. “The dedication and hard work of these local businesses is apparent in every application that was submitted and I was proud to be able attend the event and share in their success.”
